In my case “alleviate” not eliminate.

My house built in the 80′s was a squeek nightmare given the subfloor. The system did help, but because of the subpar building pratices and components used, still is not silent. I have construction experience and found that the average layman may find the system a bit tricky. I reccomend that after finding the floor joists (be sure that you do and keep checking), the use of a laser will dramatically help keep you in line and speed the process along. (i.e. find the joist on each side of the room, connect the screw points/heads using any laser that is sold at Depot/Lowe’s for a few dollars and follow the light). Watch for lap splices when floor joist run over a bearing wall below, your layout will change by the thickness of the lumber used and you may find yourself screwing into air. Once you get the feel of the screw as it penetrates a framming member, you should know when you are off target and need to verify this from time to time using the joist finding screw (supplied). All in all, the system will help and it sure beats pulling up carpet, although that is next on my list of things to do to silence the squeeks for sure.

I would define subpar as 1 layer of 3/4 plywood with H clips betweeen the stud bays.

No more Squeaks!

I am a Carpenter with 25 yrs experience. I have heard of these, but have never tried, til a customer wanted his squeaks gone. The screws work great. Just as they are supposed to.
